Congratulations to the Nandini Iyer and Riccardo Di Clemente (Complex Connections Lab)—and Massimiliano Luca (Fondazione Bruno Kessler) for winning the Data Challenge at this week’s NetMob2024 conference hosted at World Bank in Washington, DC!
The challenge sought to extract insights from mobility data, analyzing various aspects of human mobility in the countries of Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia, and India and to inform policy within these countries. Their winning paper “Assessing Urban and Rural Routing Inefficiencies with Aggregated Mobility Patterns” addressed how mobility data can reveal spatio-temporal inequalities between rural and urban areas, highlighting when and where mobility infrastructure investments can be useful to reduce urban congestion and improve rural-urban connectivity.
